follow ups

Since I’m picking up this blog again and catching up on some of my RSS feeds, I should probably follow up on some of my earlier posts.

1. Unions and card check: Ezra Klein has a couple of posts on the drawbacks of certification elections, given the reality of employer intimidation. Note that union members can still vote for their leaders and even vote to decertify.

2. I was skeptical of that article about Google and stupidity that came out in the Atlantic some months ago. Now there’s evidence that using Google – or rather, web-searching – does affect the brain. It’s probably better not to see this so much in terms of the effect of Google on intelligence, but the relationship does appear to be a positive one.
